It's all so sad. I never would have thought that this would happen. Born and raised in South San Francisco 1960 - 1978. 😢 Playland, Ocean Beach, Seals on Seal Rock, Cargo ships in the horizon coming and going. They are so so huge. Like a small city sailing by. The San Francisco Zoo is very close by. My kindergarten class and Mrs Swanson (1965) or my first grade class and Teacher (1966) Miss White all rode a school bus with our sack lunches and visited the San Francisco Zoo. I saw my first giraffe 🦒. .. what a lively area this once was. Still in California for 50 years now I am very content. Miss the Playland in the 60s....many many good memories keep it alive in my heart. ❤

2024,....This is my favorite story,...I re-tell it all the time,...because of the ingenuity. My background is in the arts, and I was a sculptor. I would build things, from junk and found objects. I have a friend, presently who rents, a space beneath a loft apartment in NYC. It is an illegal space, and it is beneath the floor of a loft apartment. My friend can't even stand up in it, it has a 4 foot height. He crawls on his hands and knees over carpeting. The owners of the loft above his crawl space, let him use their bathroom, shower and some space in their kitchen. He had a tiny cube shaped cooler in his crawl space. It isn't free, for him to live there, but extremely cheap. He's not a tall person, so it easier for him to manage living in a crawl space. He has a mattress and bed. The loft owners have clear plastic flooring, so light from their suite, filters into his crawl space. He has a shade he can draw if he wants total darkness. I imagine it is some what unhealthy to live under the floor,...maybe dust filters down there, and there isn't much air circulation. But people will do crazy things to be able to live in NYC, on a shoe string budget.
